Kid Wonder, where have you gone?
Into the wind, where you belong.
Your time here was brief, but oh you spent it well.
I remember when we first met; just a boy and girl talking.
I remember your hugs, so warm and inviting.
I remember your twenty-first birthday,
and your "first" adult drink.
I remember that laugh, so full of young things.
I remember your adventures,
your bike trek across foreign lands.
I remember sending you off to live in Cali,
so excited for the big chance.
You had a beautiful soul, love,
I wish it wasn't your time.

ReplyDeleteI saw your heart and felt your grief. I'm so sorry for your loss, Dawn, Leeroy and I are honored by your 100.
Thanks for the song choice. It helped me cry the ugly cry, which I needed to do so I could move into the honor his life phase.
DeleteThis is beautiful. I had a friend like this once. Im thankful you shared this with us.
ReplyDeleteThanks darlin'. It's a hard loss, but it helps to share about his life with others. He was one of the good ones.
DeleteOh this hits too close to home. We didn't get to mark as many milestones, but my great-nephew who left us at 7 months left an indelible mark on my close knit, very large family. The first line of the second stanza was my lump in the throat moment. I'm so sorry for your loss and I pray for your comfort.
ReplyDeleteSince blogger is hating on my IPad and Wordpress today, I'm signing off differently using my google account where I do not have a blog.

Debbie, I'm so sorry for your loss. No matter how brief a time people are with us, it hurts when they're gone. As a good friend told me, we must incorporate a piece of them into our lives so that they may live on in our hearts.
DeleteThanks for sharing your story. Thanks also for listing your blog, as it's nice to visit others who visit with me.
Beautifully done Dawn - a touching memorial.
ReplyDeleteThank you. He shared so much of his life with us, so it felt right to share his tribute with others.
